Relay For Life Nelson Tasman Returns in 2026
Relay For Life Nelson Tasman is set to return to the Nelson A&P Showgrounds, Richmond on 14–15 March 2026, and Cancer Society Nelson Tasman is encouraging workplaces, community groups, schools, families, and friends to register their teams now.
The 2024 event, the first held since 2018, brought together more than 500 people across 49 teams, raising over $205,000 for local cancer support services. With that momentum behind it, organisers are looking forward to another special community weekend in 2026.
GJ Gardner Homes Nelson returns as naming rights sponsor, with Shirley and Stephen Vercoe and their team encouraging wide community involvement, whether through forming a team, donating, or supporting participants on the day.
Relay For Life is a chance to come together to celebrate cancer survivors, support those living with cancer, and remember loved ones. Teams take turns walking the Relay track from Saturday afternoon through to Sunday morning, creating a shared experience that brings all ages together.
The weekend begins with The Cooper Group Survivors and Carers Celebration Afternoon Tea, followed by the first lap led by survivors. As night settles, the Shone & Shirley Candlelight Ceremony provides a moving moment of reflection and remembrance.
Participants can enjoy live music, a silent disco, an outdoor movie, a free massage, and other activities throughout the event. A complimentary breakfast on Sunday morning rounds out the event.
Funds raised stay in the region and directly support Cancer Society Nelson Tasman. Each year, the organisation assists over 600 individuals and whānau with services such as volunteer driving, counselling, regional support groups, yoga and gym programmes, financial grants, information, and one-on-one support. They also help people navigate health services and connect with other agencies. As a 100% community-funded organisation, Relay For Life remains its largest and most vital fundraiser.
