Darryl Ware’s childhood dream to visit Tibet became reality. A 4,373 km train journey from Shanghai over the high Tibetan plateau to Lhasa. Once in Lhasa, by road to the northwest through Shigatse and Saga to Darchen entailed another 1,338 km to Mt Kailash, the legendary hub of the world. And another 40 km south to bathe in Lake Manasarovar, to wash his sins away. A journey in need of a lot of planning and negotiating. Experiences of an altitude up to 5,300m, crowds, traffic and cultural negotiations, ‘pretty’ and not so ‘pretty’ architecture.
